The Order of the Yugoslav Star (Orden jugoslavenske velike zvijezde / Orden jugoslovenske velike zvezde) was established in 1954 by President Josip Broz Tito as a state Order of merit.
Originally issued in three classes, and expanded to four classes in 1961, it recognized extraordinary contributions to international peace, friendship, and cooperation.
The highest class, known as the Order of the Yugoslav Great Star, was the highest state decoration in Yugoslavia, awarded primarily to foreign heads of state and high-ranking officials.
