This distinctive Order of the Thistle Saint Andrew badge is presented on a dark-green neck ribbon inspired by historical eighteenth-century representations of the Order.
The familiar modern insignia of the Order is generally associated with a broad green sash or ceremonial collar. Earlier portrait evidence, however, also shows the badge suspended from a green ribbon around the neck.

The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle occupies the highest position among Scotland's orders of chivalry.
The modern Order was formally established in 1687 by King James VII of Scotland.
