This is a modern reproduction medal, inspired by the Imperial Russian medal “For the Storming of Akhulgo”, established in 1839 under Tsar Nicholas I.
The original medal was awarded to participants in the siege and assault of the mountain stronghold of Akhulgo (June 12 – August 23, 1839) during the Caucasian War, a campaign against the forces of Imam Shamil.
In total, about 12,595 original medals were issued to soldiers and officers of the Russian Empire who took part in this operation, which was one of the most significant episodes of the Caucasian conflict.
