This is a modern reproduction medal, inspired by the Imperial Russian medal “For the Battle of Varyag and Koreets”, officially approved on June 5, 1904 during the Russo-Japanese War.

The original medal commemorated the naval battle near Chemulpo (Incheon, Korea) on January 27, 1904, awarded to sailors of the cruiser Varyag and the gunboat Koreets for their participation in the action against overwhelming Japanese forces.

  • Obverse: Cross of St. George within a laurel wreath, with inscription: “For the Fight of the Varyag and the Koreets on January 27, 1904 – Chemulpo”.
  • Reverse: Scene of the naval engagement, showing Varyag and Koreets advancing against the Japanese squadron, with a cross above symbolizing memory and sacrifice.
  • Ribbon: Russian naval St. Andrew’s flag (white field with blue diagonal cross).
