This is a modern reproduction medal, inspired by the award struck for the All-Russia Industrial and Art Exhibition of 1896 in Nizhny Novgorod. The original exhibition, held from May 28 (June 9 N.S.) to October 1 (13 N.S.), 1896, was the largest pre-revolutionary exhibition in the Russian Empire and was organized with support from Emperor Nicholas II.
