This is a modern reproduction medal, inspired by the Imperial Russian naval reward medal commemorating the capture of Ochakov in June 1788 during the Russo-Turkish War.
- Obverse: Bust of Empress Catherine II (Catherine the Great) wearing a laurel wreath and coronet, with Russian inscription meaning “By the Grace of God, Catherine II, Empress and Autocrat of All the Russias.”
- Reverse: Russian inscription reading “For bravery in the waters of Ochakov, June 1788.”
The original medal honored naval personnel who displayed courage during the capture of the fortress of Ochakov, a key victory in the Russo-Turkish War of 1787–1792.
