This is a modern reproduction medal, inspired by the commemorative medal marking the 200th anniversary of the 65th Moscow Infantry Regiment (1700–1900). The regiment, one of the oldest in the Imperial Russian Army, was formed in Moscow in 1700 by General Golovin and first saw combat at the Battle of Narva on November 19, 1700.

For its anniversary in 1900, the regiment was honored with a new St. George banner, symbolizing its distinguished service and long-standing traditions within the Russian military.
