This is a reproduction of the Albert Order (Albrechts-Orden), Knight 1st Class, Civil Division, Type II, a decoration of the former Kingdom of Saxony.

The order was established on December 31, 1850, by King Frederick Augustus II to recognize contributions in science, art, philanthropy, and loyalty, particularly in the aftermath of the 1848 revolutions and the 1849 Dresden Uprising. Named after Duke Albert the Bold, the award reflected Saxony’s royal heritage and tradition of service.

Design details of the Type II version (introduced after 1876):

  • White-enameled Latin cross with gold borders
  • Surrounding green oak leaf wreath with red acorns
  • Gilded royal crown above the cross
  • Obverse: Portrait of Duke Albert with motto “ALBERTUS ANIMOSUS” (Albert the Courageous) on blue enamel
  • Reverse: Saxon coat of arms with founding date “1850”
  • Ribbon: Green and white moiré ribbon with pin-back brooch

The order included both civil and military divisions and was awarded in several classes. The Knight 1st Class was conferred on officers and distinguished civilians until 1918, when it was discontinued after the fall of the monarchy.
